Dual Enrollment Implementation

Before the semester begins

  • Advisor (or other admin) will view the catalog and discuss available options with student
  • Verify student eligibility and add/drop dates
  • Advisor processes course registration for student with EdisonLearning
  • Whitelist Acadeum and teaching institution domains for communication
  • Student receives welcome email with all policies, course expectations and login credentials

During the semester

  • Student has the full asynchronous college experience
  • Course instructed by college faculty using the college's learning management system
  • Student expected to uphold college policies and procedures

After the semester

  • College reports final grade back to EdisonLearning

What is dual enrollment, and how does it work?

Dual Enrollment allows high school students to enroll in college courses while still attending their high school. Students will participate using the college or university’s Learning Management System (LMS) and will be considered students at that college or university. In some instances, students may be eligible for dual credit for the completed courses. This means they will receive both college credit and high school credit towards their graduation requirements.

High school students enrolled in college-level courses are set up for success in their academic and professional careers. Dual enrollment courses through EdisonLearning are a cost effective, equitable and accessible option for students. Can you explain the eligibility criteria for dual enrollment courses? To be eligible for Dual Enrollment, EdisonLearning suggests that students should have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, be a high school junior or senior, and have met all prerequisite requirements for the course they wish to take. Students outside of those requirements may be eligible if they have previous experience taking an online course. Please work with your school’s guidance counselor to determine the appropriate course schedule.
Will the college credits earned through dual enrollment transfer to other colleges or universities? While EdisonLearning cannot guarantee that a course will transfer to other colleges or universities, all of the institutions we partner with have been fully vetted and meet all requirements to offer Dual Enrollment courses. In addition, they are all accredited through various nationally recognized accreditation organizations. Most of the dual enrollment courses are offered by four-year institutions and are optimized for in-state credit transfer.

What is the cost associated with dual enrollment courses? The cost and financial aid available for Dual Enrollment varies by state and school district. Please contact your school for more information.
How many dual enrollment courses can a student take in one semester or academic year? While EdisonLearning does not limit the number of courses a student can take at one time, the school district may have policies regarding this. Please contact your guidance counselor for more information.
What kind of support and resources are available for students participating in dual enrollment? Students taking dual enrollment courses will be considered students of that college or university. They will have access to all supports and resources available to students at those institutions, including technical support and student accessibility services.
How will participating in dual enrollment affect the student's high school GPA and college transcript? It is up to the school district to determine whether dual enrollment courses also count for dual credit and therefore how they affect high school GPA. Dual Enrollment students will receive a transcript from the college or university that they can use to transfer credits to another institution that they attend after high school. Please note that course transfers and equivalency is at the discretion of the college or university.

What happens if a student decides to drop a dual enrollment course? Dual Enrollment drops must be completed prior to the drop date listed in the course details to ensure a refund.
Are there any limitations on the types of courses that can be taken through dual enrollment? Students are welcome to enroll in any available courses through their high school’s Dual Enrollment catalog. These courses are limited to 200-level and below and may be further limited by state or other course requirements based on the school district’s policies.
Will students be required to purchase textbooks or other materials for their Dual Enrollment course? Required texts and other course materials vary by course and can be found within the course details in the course catalog.

What is the cost for Dual Enrollment courses? For information on course costs or to add Dual Enrollment to your EdisonLearning contract, please contact your Account Manager or Customer Success Manager.

Is there an add/drop or refund policy? Each course has its own start and end date as well as a last date for enrollment and drop date. Course drops processed prior to the drop date will result in a full refund.
How do I enroll a student? Program implementation, including enrollment procedures, will be covered by your assigned Customer Success Manager once your contract is finalized.
Who monitors the students’ progress? Students who are dually enrolled will function as a student of the college or university. Their professors will monitor progress and provide assignment grades, feedback, and final grades. High school advisors will have access to the students’ final grades within eSchoolware upon completion of the course.
How are final grades reported? Final grades will be available within eSchoolware once the course is complete and the higher education institution processes them.
Are Dual Enrollment courses available for dual credit? You as an accredited high school may choose to offer Dual Enrollment courses as dual-credit based on your state and local graduation requirements.
How long are the courses? The length of courses vary by college or university and course type. Course length is available under the course details within the course catalog. However, most courses are designed to be completed within one semester.
How many courses can a student take each semester? EdisonLearning does not limit the number of Dual Enrollment courses a student may take each semester.
What are the requirements for students to be eligible?
